Arbeitsgruppe Supramolekulare Chemie

Herzlich willkommen auf der Homepage der Arbeitsgruppe Supramolekulare Chemie am Institut für Organische Chemie und Makromolekulare Chemie an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf.

Bernd was officially introduced into the Junges Kolleg of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy. To promote young scholars, the Junges Kolleg was founded in 2006 and Bernd will be a part of it from 2020 for the following four years. On Tuesday the official inauguration was held in the presence of the North Rine-Westphalian Minister of Science and Education Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen and our rector Anja Steinbeck together with many members of the Academy.

See the German press release of the HHU and the German press release of the Academy here for further details. Picture kindly provided by AWK NRW / Andreas Endermann.

In collaboration with Oliver Weingart from HHU Düsseldorf, we elucidated the photophysical properties of our highly fluorinated azobenzenes. Therefore, we combined photochemistry together with theoretical calculations, which will be published in the upcoming themed issue "Molecular Switches" in Beilstein J. Org. Chem.

Thank you all very much for voting! We are happy to announce that we also participate in next years calendar 2020. This year’s theme of the calendar competition was "Creative Through Diversity". 19 images have been submitted and it was on you to vote for the 12 most favorite images. Congratulations to Esther!

Esther and Thomas paper was selected as the inside front cover of the upcoming issue of ChemComm. The graphic was created by Tom Kunde with input from all members!

Bernd was selected as Emerging Investigator 2019, who are "internationally recognised, up-and-coming scientists in the early stages of their independent careers, and who are making outstanding contributions to their respective fields!" Check out his profile here

We report [2+2] supramolecular boxes assembled by halogen bonding. The discrete, two-dimensional boxes with a length of 25 - 30 Å are based on rigid u-shaped halogen acceptors paired with highly fluorinated, azobenzenes bearing halogen bond donors will be featured in a upcoming issue of ChemComm. Congratulations to Esther, Thomas and Tom!

Previous works of Bernd at the Humboldt University of Berlin have just been published in Nature Nanotechnology. A paper six years in the making was accepted in Nature Nanotechnology in the beginning of 2019 and saw the light of day on Monday accompanied by press release from Heinrich Heine University and Humboldt University. We could show that by combining light-emitting semiconducting polymers and fluorinated and non-fluorinated photoswitchable molecules, remote controllable light-emitting transistors can be fabricated. Writing and erasing patterns like the letter H is possible on a micrometer scale, surpassing event current retina displays.

The work was also just featured as a undefinedResarch Highlight in Nature

30.01.2019 Robin Küng receives a Manchot Fellowship

Robin was awarded with a Manchot Fellowship for his acadamic achievements. Congratulations Robin! We are very grateful for the support of the Jürgen Manchot Stiftung.

Tom and Bernd just published a highlight in the prestigious Angewandte Chemie journal. We describe and discuss recent developments in the field of analysis of compounds that are only available in traces, like metabolites or byproducts of reactions!  undefinedClick here for more

After the online votes were cast, the new pART of Research - Diversity in Research calendar was finally released on October 8th, get it while supplies last.

02.08.2018 Tom Kunde receives the Kekulé-Fellowship of the VCI

Tom was awarded with the prestigious Kekulé-Fellowship of the VCI for his extraordinary acadamic achievements.

Scientists of five HHU faculties have submitted their picture entries in the pART of Research calendar competition and around 1400 votes were cast. We are very proud to have not one but TWO pictures in the upcoming calendar 2019 "Diversity in Research/Objects-Places-People".

Thank you so much for voting for our submissions. We will continue to work on Art & Science related projects in the long run and of course congratulations to Olli & Tom!

Previous works of Bernd at the Humboldt University of Berlin, featuring a photoswitchable catalyst have just been published in Nature Catalysis. The diarylethene-based Bronsted acid catalyst allows both chain length (left) as well as composition (right) of formed polymers to be controlled by light of different wavelengths. Congratulations to Fabian Eisenreich and Michael Kathan.

Press release of the HHU in undefinedGerman now released as well.

Our work is featured on the undefinedFront Cover of the July issue!

02.05.2018 The Chemical Industry Fund Material Cost Allowance Grant

Bernd was awarded a Material Cost Allowances grant by the Chemical Industry Fund. We are very grateful for the support.
