The selective functionalization of hydrocarbons through catalytic oxidation is a key technology for producing both basic and fine chemicals and complex active compounds such as pharmaceuticals. New sustainable approaches are urgently needed that use abundant, environmentally benign oxidants such as O₂ and H₂O₂ under mild conditions. In nature, enzymes with iron-containing active sites carry out such selective oxidations by activating O₂. Building on insights from bioinorganic model chemistry, our research group aims to develop improved bioinspired and sustainable catalysts. The FOR team comprises expertise in model chemistry, the trapping and spectroscopy of reactive intermediates, kinetics, catalysis, and theoretical modelling to gain detailed mechanistic insight.
The Daumann group is looking forward to another four years of collaboration with the groups of Serena de Beer, Christian Limberg, Franc Meyer, Frank Neese, Thorsten Glaser, Ivana Ivanović-Burmazović and our newest member Cui Wang!
